FlatWorld Announces Exclusive Licensing Agreement with Thinkwell for Mathematics Textbooks
College-level mathematics content created by renowned professor will be integrated into FlatWorld’s college learning materials platform.
BOSTON, November 5, 2018 — FlatWorld, a publisher of the most affordable high-quality college textbooks and supporting materials, today announced an exclusive mathematics licensing agreement with Thinkwell, a creator of dynamic content for core curriculum subject areas.
“Math is a remaining stronghold for traditional college publishers, and they continue to charge exorbitant prices for textbooks in this field,” said Alastair Adam, co-CEO of FlatWorld. “Our agreement with Thinkwell will allow higher education math professors to save each of their students hundreds of dollars a year, while continuing to teach with the highest quality resources.”
Under the agreement, FlatWorld gains exclusive access to Thinkwell’s college algebra, trigonometry, and precalculus videos, as well as its digital and print textbooks. This high-quality content adds to FlatWorld’s comprehensive digital learning materials catalog, which includes more than 135 peer-reviewed textbooks, PowerPoint lecture slides, instructional and practice videos, instructor’s manuals, test banks, quizzing, and a robust homework platform.
“Much like FlatWorld, our business has always focused on providing affordable and quality content for the higher ed market,” said Carl Tyson, CEO at Thinkwell. “As a result of this agreement, we hope to see even more professors and students discover that high-quality learning materials don’t have to come with high price tags.”
Thinkwell’s mathematics courses were created by Dr. Edward B. Burger, president of Southwestern University. Previously, Burger was Francis Christopher Oakley Third Century Professor of Mathematics at Williams College for more than two decades. He has won numerous teaching awards and recognition for creating innovative digital course materials, including The Association of Educational Publishers’ “Distinguished Achievement Award” for educational video technology, Microsoft’s “Global Hero in Education” honor, and Reader’s Digest’s “100 Best of America” as America’s best math teacher.
“I’m delighted to be associated with FlatWorld, a publisher on the right side of the affordability issue,” commented Burger. “A large part of my career has been dedicated to creating course materials that truly help foster student engagement, learning, and intellectual growth. In the coming years, I am hopeful that my work will play an increased role in helping to educate the world’s next generation of mathematicians, engineers, scientists, and wise creative thinkers.”
FlatWorld will make Thinkwell’s mathematics courses available starting in the spring semester of 2019. Professors interested in learning more can contact FlatWorld at support@flatworld.com.
