Recognition for “Communication in the Real World, Version 2.0” underscores textbook’s excellence in conveying the foundations of communications, and illustrating applications of basic principles from the field
November 8, 2019 — FlatWorld, a digital-first publisher of award-winning college learning materials that are both affordable and high quality, today announced that Richard G. Jones, Jr., Ph.D., has received the Textbook of Distinction Award from the Basic Course Division of the National Communication Association (NCA). Dr. Jones is Associate Professor and Introductory Course Director at Eastern Illinois University (EIU) and received the award for his textbook, Communication in the Real World, Version 2.0.
“Winning the Textbook of Distinction Award from the Basic Course Division of the National Communication Association is a career highlight for me,” said Dr. Jones. “As a longtime member of NCA, I have relied on the research, pedagogical knowledge, and inspiration of my fellow basic course directors and colleagues within the division. So, to be recognized with this award by these distinguished scholars is a true honor.”
NCA’s Textbook of Distinction Award recognizes college-level textbooks that represent significant contributions to the communication discipline. The award will be presented at the Basic Course Division business meeting on November 16th, 2019, during the National Communication Association’s 105th Annual Convention in Baltimore.
Added Dr. Jones, “As a communication scholar with a passion for teaching and pedagogy, partnering with FlatWorld in 2011 was a dream come true. The publisher’s model of affordable textbooks by renowned experts speaks for itself. As Communication in the Real World was adopted at more institutions and then went into a second edition, I have been able to share my passion for communication studies with many thousands of students around the world — something that wouldn’t have happened without this publishing partnership.”
